What a skill is

A run you liked, saved so you can fire it again with a slash.

A skill is a run you liked, saved so you can fire it again with a slash. Type its name, like /product-video-skill, and Light works the way the skill says instead of starting from scratch.

Each skill covers one kind of job, like a product video, a storyboard or a look you keep coming back to. It holds the steps, the rules and the examples for that job, so your tenth silver ring reel comes out as considered as the first.

What is inside

Every skill is a small folder.

PartWhat it holds
NameThe slash name you type, like /product-video-skill. Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens.
DescriptionOne or two lines on when to use it. Light reads this to decide whether the skill fits your request.
SKILL.mdThe instructions: when to apply it, the steps to follow, the output to aim for, the mistakes to avoid.
Extra filesOptional. Longer examples or reference notes in references/, scripts/, or assets/.

Light reads the extra files only when a step needs them. A skill can carry a big library of examples and every message stays fast.

How a skill works with the rest of the canvas

A skill guides Light. Your generations still follow your Review or Create setting, so you decide when shots run. See Ask Light.

A skill can name a model, and that model runs as itself. See Models.

The color grade lives on the image. You set it with Adjust color and light.

Where skills come from

Built-in skills ship with Chromatic, like /create-skill. Skills marked Yours are the ones you made and saved. See Create a skill. Discover holds skills from other people that you can add to your list. See Manage your skills.

The public catalog at skills shows what each featured skill does, the steps it runs, and what to bring. The Try button, like Try /product-video-skill, opens a canvas with that skill ready in the composer.
